Volcan Azul is one of the most respected coffee estates in Costa Rica, located in the renowned West Valley coffee-growing region on the edge of Poás Volcano. For five generations, the founding family has pursued a singular commitment to quality, combining deep agricultural knowledge with continuous innovation.

Fertile volcanic clay soils, defined wet and dry seasons, and carefully managed shade-grown coffee provide exceptional growing conditions for specialty coffee. Quality begins long before harvest. Alejo and his team regularly monitor Brix sugar levels in the coffee cherries while they are still on the tree, allowing them to identify the optimal moment for picking.

After harvest, only carefully selected cherries are retained before being transferred whole onto raised drying beds. Slow, even drying concentrates the fruit sugars while preserving the coffee's vibrant acidity and aromatic complexity. This meticulous natural process enhances the coffee's distinctive sweetness and develops the expressive notes of dried fruit, florals, and refined complexity that have become the hallmark of Volcan Azul.
