Brazilian flavour with a difference: Petit Sundrop is a delicious new coffee from pioneering producer Daterra. This lot follows our earlier Sundrop releases, with coffee that is fully dried on the tree. By choosing only the smaller sized beans, Daterra have created a new profile, 'Petit Sundrop' - full of velvety sweetness.

THE CUP

Drying on the branch brings wonderful sweetness to Petit Sundrop. With smooth notes of stone fruit, caramel, and frangipane, we chose to roast this as a choice for both Filter and Espresso.

ABOUT THE FARM

Daterra are pioneers in their field: committed to pushing the boundaries in coffee production, with a dedicated approach to both quality and sustainability. They were the first Rainforest Alliance certified coffee farm in Brazil and the only B Corp certified coffee producer in the world. For us, working with producers is an exciting journey and our close relationship with Daterra has allowed us to push the limits of coffee sourcing.

We have committed to plant 40,000 native trees on 25 hectares of land. The trees will be planted, nurtured, and managed by Daterra for at least 10 years. Our forest will grow on their estate in Cerrado, Brazil, and will be managed by their expert team. Our forest project is the most valuable sustainability project we have ever done. We invite you to be part of our most valuable sustainability project yet. Let us grow a forest together!

THE PROCESS

Always looking to innovate, for this coffee Daterra uses an adaptation of the natural processing method that makes use of the dry season in Brazil. This lot undergoes a unique process, which begins at the peak of the season when the cherries are full of honey-like moisture.

Rather than immediately harvesting mature cherries, cherries are dried while still attached to the branch. Dry conditions at the time of harvest mean that fungus or other defects can be avoided. This multi-stage processing is typical of the care Daterra takes at every step of production and the result is an elegant and sweet coffee with low acidity.
