Today, the Inspiration journey takes you to Colombia for the first time. Colombia is one of the most exciting coffee origins out there, with producers constantly pushing the boundaries of flavour.

Named for a bird that sings on the estate, El Turpial is a brand new addition to our portfolio. When Emerson Narváez came upon the farm, it was cut off from electricity and water, accessible only by horse, but the Pacific microclimate offered real potential. Initially, Gesha could not survive at such high altitude, so Emerson grafted the delicate Gesha varietal with Caturra, creating flavour that is totally unique. The plush profile is sweet and floral, with notes of mandarin, cherry, marshmallow, and black tea.

THE CUP

In this lot, Emerson has created something truly unique. The plush profile is sweet and floral, with notes of mandarin, cherry, marshmallow, and black tea. The high sweetness is balanced by defined acidity, showing the elegant character that has made Gesha so sought after.

ABOUT THE FARM

Emerson Felipe Narváez grew up in Nariño alongside his four sisters and parents, learning the ways of the land and watching his father cultivate commercial coffee. After leaving home, he explored various professions - serving as a soldier, a builder, and a baker - before fate brought him back to coffee. A cooperative introduced him to the world of specialty coffee, and from that moment, he was captivated.

With determination, he began experimenting with various processes and varieties like SL28, SL34, Laurina, Pink Bourbon, Gesha, Wush Wush, Sudan Rume, and more. He carefully studied how each variety adapted to the farm’s altitude and conditions. Through perseverance, his dream began to take shape: producing exceptional specialty coffee.

THE PROCESS

This Gesha was naturally processed. After harvest by hand, the ripe coffee cherries are sorted and transferred to raised beds. The cherries are dried whole to impart a sweetness and texture, letting the beautiful complexity of the Gesha varietal shine.
