Cocoa Nibs. Cherry. Spices.

We visited Mahembe in 2016 and noticed the strong community building around the coffees - all focused on one thing: Making the coffees better. Our particular lot #58 stood out on our cupping table. This coffee has notes of Cocoa nibs spiced with nutmeg. A cherry sweetness pops through it’s truffle mouthfeel.
Mahembe is located in the Nyamasheke District, Western Province. Justin was born on the farm and returned to it after the 1994 Genocide. He began revitalizing the 11,600 tree coffee plantation and, in 2008 he decided to process his own cherries instead of selling to neighboring washing stations. In his first year of full production, Mahembe's coffee took 4th place in the Rwandan Cup of Excellence competition.
