HACKESCHER MARKT

Berlin’s Barn Quarter (“Scheunenviertel”) was created in 1672 by Frederick William of Brandenburg. He then built 27 Barns by the city wall, to house the cattle and hay that supplied the nearby cattle market (Now: Alexanderplatz). For fear of fire risks, barns were not allowed to be built anywhere else in the city. Fast forward to 2019 and the Barn Quarter is a fashionable district, full of unique shops and great hospitality.

THE BARN Hackescher Markt sits within a building that dates back more than 250 years, and oozes character. Our design decisions were inspired by the solid stone facade and the wooden beams we discovered under the floor and ceiling. Fresh oak panels cover the floor, ceiling, and the eight metre long bar that connects the front room to the back. The bar features a matte black steel surface, a material also used in the lighting we chose for the space. The front room hosts a large communal table, while the back room has single tables and an oak bench.

Behind the bar you will find a La Marzocco PB-X espresso machine, Mythos 2 and EK43 grinders, Nitro Taps, and a slick Marco Brew Bar for our hand brews. From our own kitchen, there is a great selection of homemade sandwiches, cakes and fresh juices, as well as teas. Vegan options are available. The retail shelves are always stocked with freshly roasted beans and our favourite brew equipment.
