Huehuetenango is a coffee growing region that we love. For more than 40 years, Francisco Morales has been nurturing his land and his coffees have become true seasonal highlights. This year, Francisco and his son Elmer produced their first naturally processed coffees dried under shading nets, to further enhance the flavours in the cup.

Tasting this full-bodied coffee, we knew it would be another favourite! In the cup La Esperanza natural is deliciously sweet, with gentle notes of cherry and maple syrup.

The Cup

This is the first time that we feature a natural processed coffee from La Esperanza: The cup is perfectly balanced, offering notes of cherry, maple syrup, and sweet vanilla. The natural processing adds a creamy texture.

About The Farm

Francisco Morales fell in love with coffee as a young boy. At 15, he began growing his own varietals in a small nursery. For over 40 years, he and his wife have worked tirelessly to push the quality of their coffee.

Huehuetenango offers some of the best growing conditions in Guatemala: The cold mountain temperatures at night and the warm Mexican winds create a unique micro-climate.

Coffee plants are lush and separated into well manicured lots. Cherries mature slowly under a canopy of shade trees, which also provide ample support for birds and insects.

The Process

This natural is carefully processed. After mature cherries are harvested, unripe floaters are sorted out under water.

Drying beds are stacked in 3 levels. To ensure even drying, the beds rotate daily. This process lasts 12-15 days, until the coffee is dried to export specifications.
