Producing a natural coffee is a difficult thing to do in Kenya - harvest uniformity and weather conditions have to be perfect for three weeks of even drying. Boyce Harries from Chania Estate took the challenge and has perfected his technique over the past eight years. This year is his best and we proudly present his pure French Mission Bourbon varietal which scores and tastes fantastically well. Our rare Kenyan natural has very complex flavour notes of blueberries, currant, cider, vanilla and a lemony finish. Its high sweetness and smooth mouthfeel make this an exceptional coffee.

The Harries family has been running Chania Estate for generations. They support the local community and their workers with social facilities, schooling, a nursery, and health and safety measures. They donated land to the Thika Municipal Council and co-founded the Wabeni Technical Institute. The institute seeks to teach underprivileged children practical skills which helps them improve their quality of life. French Mission Bourbon is the original plant from Bourbon Island (now: La Reunion) that was brought to other African countries by French missionaries. It was used in the 1950s to create Kenyan hybrids SL 28 or SL34.
