Orlando Antulio works alongside his wife and son Gesler, continuing the family legacy of growing high quality coffee in La Libertad. In 1985 his grandfather Javier started to plant coffee on a small plot, and in the following years Orlandos father continued the work: investing in improvements in their wet mill and purchasing additional parcels of land to enlarge their estate.

THE CUP
Notes of honey and milk chocolate
are complemented by floral notes and a lemony acidity. With a defined body and a long finish with notes of vanilla. El Anonal is a very sweet coffee.

Around a decade ago the coffee leaf rust epidemic decimated their farm and the surrounding coffee growing regions of Guatemala. After this setback, Orlando used the opportunity to replant and diversify the varietals growing on the farm. With the introduction of a range of varietals with higher natural resistance to disease, alongside more traditional crops, quality and yield has also improved. In 2015, Orlando took the further step of introducing the sought-after Gesha and Pacamara plants. Their resilience and passion for innovation has guided the family towards ever greater success in producing the highest quality coffees and we love this most recent example.

Orlando and his family process this coffee at their home wet mill, at an altitude of over 1600 meters. The coffee is depulped the same day it is picked, typically 6 hours or less after picking. Beans are then wet fermented with an amount of water roughly equivalent to the volume of the coffee, and this fermentation lasts around 32 hours. After the coffee is washed, they allow the coffee to soak for an additional 12 hours in clean water in a tank. The coffee is then moved to a patio, where it dries for about 5-6 hours per day for 6 days. Once it is dry, they store it carefully until it is moved to the warehouse, then transported to the dry mill for processing and preparation for export. With their expertise and careful processing, El Anonal presents a clean and sweet example of a perfectly produced Guatemalan coffee.
