Ricardo Zelaya started operating Puerta Verde in 1999. New varietals were planted and new agronomic practices adopted. Today, this farm continues to be a beautiful piece of heaven that produces outstanding award-winning coffees. Our microlot was picked at 1,520 masl on the 25th of January. The cup profile presents flavours of caramel, milk chocolate, and raisin with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.
Puerta Verde began producing coffee in the end of the 19th century when the Minondo family started exploring coffee. After four generations, the brothers and sisters were all committed to cup quality and the preservation of the environment. This coffee was de-pulped and fermented in a traditional wet mill. Then it was transported through clean water canals before it was patiently dried for 16 days. Puerta Verde is located in a magical valley in Antigua, Guatemala, called the Valley of Panchoy. Puerta Verde’s name derives from a green gate that has, since the beginning, guarded the farms’ richest soil and the heritage to one of the best coffees grown in the area. “The Green Gate to the best coffee in Antigua”.
