Mbokam Estate has a fantastic micro climate: The farm is north facing toward Mount Kenya and is divided by a creek. Cooler mornings and evenings are creating an unusual cup profile: This coffee has jammy notes of cranberry and orange which are reminiscent of marmalade. The body is bolder than the Mbokam AA that we featured earlier this season.
We are building a close relationship with the family. New laws in Kenya allow direct purchasing from smaller estates. Which is an opportunity for us to sponsor direct sustainability projects in order to establish consistently high coffee qualities. We bought the whole farm output, which includes three grades: AA, AB, and PB. The AB is a slightly smaller bean which typically allows it a longer shelf life compared to the AA, as it has less surface area.
