On the slopes of Mount Kenya sits Ivory, or Miguongo in Kirinyaga. This high elevation part of Kirinyaga County boasts very nutritious soil, which has resulted in this juicy coffee with notes of blackberry, vanilla, rhubarb, and hints of liquorice.
Haniel Miguongo loved coffee, but the land he owned was at an elevation too low to grow it. In the 50s he had the opportunity to swap his land for a five-acre high elevation farm, and spent all his savings on planting coffee. By 1979, Ivory had expanded to thirty acres with a total of 14,000 SL28 trees. The farm is now run by his daughter-in-law Irene, with whom we have an exclusive farm partnership.
