Soil management is the knowledge of the components of a farms soil, and how to feed the plants accordingly. This is very important for our coffee growers. A strong local exporter usually supports farmers with this knowledge and agronomy training.
We have quite a few farmers that have tested different varietals on their farms to find out which of them performs best on their soil. The best protection against coffee diseases are strong plants growing on healthy soil. When we go to farms, we smell the soil - which is a quick way of finding out if soil is healthy or just dusty earth. Generally speaking, we believe that great coffee quality comes from healthy soil and good farm management. Farmers have an interest to protect their farms longevity – it’s their main asset and what they leave behind for their families.
